A special May Day rec for this Barbara Kopple documentary which plops you in the midst of a Kentucky coal miner strike circa 1973. It's harrowing and painful and also somehow hopeful. Watch if you like: bearing witness to the struggle of the working class; politically charged folk music; Direct Cinema-style docs like Grey Gardens.
